Hi, I am Serena.
I am mother, photographer, and nurse. This little business of mine started from a dream, a dream most mothers have. How can I be a provider without leaving my babies for 40 long hours a week? Or worse, working overtime. I’ve always loved to be creative, it’s when I feel the most alive, and at home. In highschool my genre of choice was drawing, it would get me through math classes or really any class for that matter. In college I bought my first “real camera” but never actually considered that my creativity could be a source of income. It actually never even dawned on me. Creativity felt so personal to me, what if people didn’t like it? It felt much safer to create for myself or close friends and family. So I would take photos for close friends and document my own life but when anyone outside of that circle would outreach, I wouldn’t dare. Then a good friend from high school outreached me and asked me to take their family photos and I agreed. I regretted it deeply for about 5 days leading up to the photo shoot. (Ha sorry Nico). But I did it, and when I did, it was liberating. I realized that not only could do something I love, but I could do this over and over again with different people. So in January of 2021, I went from Serena “who takes pictures sometimes” to Serena Brooks Photography.
